Introduction

Eastern Woodland Indian Dance apron from the Lac Du Flambeau Reservation. Consists of a skunk hide mounted on red and black felt, made in the early 1900s, collected between 1930 and 1945, presented by John L. Holden in 1991.

skunk fur, felt

Techniques or Format

Skunk fur backed with two layers of felt, black and red, red closer to fur, red felt has pinked edges. At top, on back, two felt loops are applied to attach apron to belt (these are worn and stretched from wear). All handsewn, hide is handsewn to felt with cotton thread.
