Introduction

Twined bag made in one piece of red and black wools and cotton string. Motifs consist of hourglasses on one side and diamond pattern in central pattern on the other side.

Commercial cotton string; red woolen yarn; black animal hair or wool yarn; purple calico tie at top

Techniques or Format

finger woven; no side seams, twined all the way around. Warp threads hung over a length of wood, hanging down either side. Top side is loosely woven so you can put a drawstring in. Twined on split pairs, the desired colour being kept to the face. Warp - Striped alternately cotton and wool. Weft - cotton string. In the edging panel, the colour not wanted has not been worked, but cut off.

Motifs and Patterns

Geometric designs on both sides; One side has alternating hourglass motifs and lozenges in black between striped panels obliquely barred in red and black. On the other, a panel of black lozenges, between similar barred and striped panels.
