Introduction

A letter stating that all of the undersigned Chiefs wish that Waywaynosh, as their Head Chief, be given 75 pounds from the annuity before it is distributed. They also agree that Wasag[****], Chif of the River Aux Sables have 15 pounds out of the present year's annuity. Perhaps this is the sort of petition the unnamed speaker of the document dated 1838-10-12 was referring to. This is relevant to the 24 Nations Belt as it pertains to the distribution of gifts, and perhaps to abuses within that system. ; 24 Indians signed, each with a doodem. It should be noted that there are 24 signatures on this matter pertaining to an issue of relevance to the 24 Nations Belt.

24 doodems, including one particularly violent-looking fish [with great emphasis placed on its considerable jaw] (bottom of p.65723). Also of interest is a beaver doodem that appears to have its face contiguous with a stick. I am unfamiliar with doodems depicting objects external (even if still clearly connected) to their animal identity. Alternatively, this doodem (the last one on p.65722) may be a composite of two doodems: a beaver adjacent to and facing a bird [perhaps crane] foot. Either way, this doodem is unique.

People: Jones! William! Superintendant! Indian Department! ; Jarvis! Samuel P.! Colonel! Chief Superintendant of Indian Affairs; Waywaynosh; Wasag[****]; [20 Aboriginal signatures, but not one of which I am confident I can identify. The penmanship on this page is extraordinarily difficult-someone with familiarity with Aboriginal names from this area in 1839 should try to identify these names].
