Pipe bowl, rounded
This relative is a pipe bowl that is spherical in shape except for the opening at the top of the bowl where tobacco would have been placed. The maker incised a pattern of vertical lines along the midline of the bowl bordered by two strips of diagonal lines. There are also lines etched into the rim of the bowl. GRASAC researchers suggested by the appearance of the inside of the bowl that this relative had been smoked before and likely used in ceremony. While the precise origins of this relative are not certain, it was collected by a German soldier, Johann Ludolf von Unger, who was based in the St. Lawrence River region during the American War of Independence.
This relative currently resides at the Städtisches Museum in Braunschweig, Germany.
