Introduction

In this letter, Joseph Brant laments the news that the Delawares have allied themselves to the Americans. He states "I am afriad that it will be all ways the case untill the rest of us should all join and give such Indians good beating." He also believes that no "yanky Indian" should be permitted to attend the council at Sandusky. Finally, Brant expresses his hurt at the Grand River Indians having been denied deeds to land they wished. He says of the governor's decision on the matter, "it hurt my pride and feelings Extremely of this occasion I can not hardly reconcil my desire to Live on such situation I never did expected that my attachment to the English should any time shake I am totally dispirited."
