shoulder bag with fringe and porcupine quill embroidery.

Materials

deer hide, porcupine quills, ?goose quills, nettlestalk fiber;

Techniques or Format

two square pieces of hide sewn together on three sides, one side covered with porcupine quill embroidery in double fold or zig-zag band stitch, single quill stitch used for outlining, 2 holes in centre of back for attachment of a strap (was a shoulder bag)
Cory: A unique feature of this bag is that there is thong piping running around the perimeter.

Original and Subsequent Uses

Ruth: This bag was probably a shoulder bag. The two holes on the centre back indicate that a strap was probably attached originally.

Condition: quillwork good, some cones missing, quillwork around edges has deteriorated, probably from wear and therefore a sign of use
