MHM Catalog: "Dark wood bowl (black walnut) with natural appearance from the wood grain. Bowl is wide with rounded bottom and two very short tri-ridged ears or handles opposite of each other. Bowl has a very smooth finish, and a nice dark patina except for the bottom center where the wood has a lightened some. An accompanying spoon is included in this donation."

MHM Catalog " Carved wooden feast bowl used by Black Hawk (1767-1838), Chief of the Sauk nation, leader of the Sauk, Fox, and Kickapoo in the 1832 war named after him and an ally of the British in the war of 1812." and further "According to the donor, this spoon [sic] and bowl were used by the Sauk Chief Black Hawk, but the donor does not describe how it came into her possession."
