Collection Narratives and Histories
Shield was given to or acquired by Lt. Andrew Foster while in service in the Great Lakes region. Returned with him to England and remained with the familiy until 1967. The dealer George Terasaki had by this point purchased the bulk of the collection from the Wells Museum in the UK and had written the family for more information. They then sold the shield, a quiver and arrows remaining directly to Terasaki, who then sold them to the Museum of the American Indian, Heye Foundation, in New York in 1967.
