Introduction

This box is made of Birch bark and moose hair embroidery with natural colors, green, brown, red, yellow, and pink creating a floral design. It was likely made in the 19th or early 20th c. by someone of the Huron in the Great Lakes region. Item was accessioned in 1962 by the Missouri Historical Society.

Components stitched together with white cotton thread; birch bark liners; natural, green, brown, red, yellow, pink (faded) moose hair embroidery; standard trim around top, middle and bottom edges of top and bottom made of natural moose hair binding sewn with silk thread, with interspersed woven details around top edging.
