Carved maple with porcupine quillwork
Techniques or Format
Long flat pipe stem with intricate piercework decoration. Remnants of quillwork windings in white and yellow remain on the two slotted portions of the stem.
Motifs and Patterns
Designs include maltese crosses, rectangles, diamonds, triangles, serrated slots and a pair of hearts. Marks: 10 in blue and C479 in red pencil.
Other Notes
This type of pipe stem is commonly referred to as a "puzzle stem."
