Introduction

headdress, collected by Chief John Gibson, Onkwehonwe (Iroquois, Hodenosaunee), Six Nations Reserve, Brantford, Ontario, 1800s - 1911.

Nation of Origin

: Jbrant feels that could be Tuscarora -- common to have feathers lying down. If one feather was standing up, would likely be onondaga.

Date Made or Date Range: 1800s to 1911
Materials

turkey feathers, partridge feathers.

Techniques or Format

made of coarsely woven beige coloured fabric, inserted are turkey feathers, partridge feathers, may have fallen and might have stood up higher at one point. One feather has red cloth wrapped around the base. Feathers seem to be laid against the body of the cap along the front and side, while the ones on the top appear to be projecting back and may in fact have stood up higher.
