The belt is woven with animal hide thong warps and vegetable fibre and/or sinew wefts, made of white and purple wampum beads.
The belt has 9 warps: it is 8 rows wide, and 145 beads long. The British Museum object catalogue states the belt was woven on a bow-loom. The rhythm of the "V" design and marks on the thong warps which indicate additional wefts might have once been present suggest the belt may not be complete.
The white ground is decorated with a double zig-zag line composed of 7 "v" motifs touching at the base/apex, done in purple wampum.
Provenance
This belt was purchased by the British Museum from Mrs D K Oldman in 1949, as part of a larger collection created by her husband, W O Oldman.
