Woman's leggings. Hodenosaunee, Seneca. From the Allegany Reservation, New York. Collected by Alanson B. Skinner and acquired by the National Museum of the American Indian in 1925.

Materials

red woolen cloth (broadcloth or stroud?); blue cotton tape; size 12 opaque white and pearly white beads; size 10 opaque white beads; beige thread; reddish brown thread.

Techniques or Format

Each legging is made from a single piece of cloth. They are sewn up the front with a 5cm space left at the bottom, and cut to flare out at the bottom.
Of the two horizontal stripes in the beaded border, one is done in opaque white beads white and the other in pearly white beads.
