Cotton canvas. Commercial wool yarn, in red, yellow, aqua and purple. Green cotton twill binding tape. Black wool twill is union cloth, warp is linen, weft is wool- became widely available in the 1870's. Sinew and linen thread. Gartering noted on withers [front] underside. Beads sinew sewn and couched in linen. Beads- greasy: Mustard, lemon yellow, dusty rose, dark turquoise, medium green in size 11. Small section of mustard in size 13. Opaque: white, navy, light turquoise grayish pink [brain colored!] size 13. Clear:dark rose, yellow, clear, dark green, matte pink, burgundy, brown, matte burgundy. White heart: red. Opalescent: blue-ish. CW.
Sections of bilaterally symmetrical black wool twill with center seam. Backed with natural colored canvas and bound with French stitch and bound with green twill cotton tape. Corners of blanket have beadwork panels that are sinew strung and couched with linen thread. Motifs are made from birchbark pattern pieces and traces with flour paste. Fringe is hand woven wool, red originally with hand twisted fringe. Handmade pompoms. All hand sewn. CW, SFR, CH.
Hand made and hand sewn saddle blanket with center French seam. Blanket has two lobes extending from the corners the ones in back being larger. these have individually unique floral beaded design fields. Each lobe is decorated with a multi-colored wool tassel connected with 5" twisted strings. Black wool and linen union cloth has bean beaded in an asymmetrical pattern using birch bark pattern pieces that are outlined in flour paste. Hand woven wool fringe. CW, SFR, CH.
