Large ash splint basket made using the plaiting technique. The wooden handle is secured to the basket with a wooden pin(?) that acts as a hinge and allows the handle to move freely. Created by Delphine Cloud, a member of the Hochunk Nation in 2008, and collected by Pieter Hovens during a field trip in the same year.

This large ash splint basket with a square base was made using the plaiting technique. It is woven with broad splint spokes, narrow weavers of splint dyed red and yellow, and has one broad yellow weaver in the middle of basket. The handle is made of wood and is secured with the use of a wooden pin(?) attached to the basket that acts as a hinge and allows the handle to move freely.
The alternating use of dyed splints creates a decorative checkered design along the sides of the basket
