Introduction

A small beaded box with beaded handles. Items beaded in this style are known as whimseys and were often made for the Victorian tourist trade. Haudenosaunee. Donated to the Woodland Cultural Centre by George Maracle.

Materials

Cardboard or plastic; polished cotton, beige; velvet, purple; size 10 glass beads, clear, clear and translusent green, blue, red, yellow; size 8 clear beads; grey bugle beads; beige cotton thread; paper.

Techniques or Format

Sides, top and bottom are made of cradboard, or another hard material, covered with cotton on both sides, outside of each side and the top has a central panel of purple velvet, raised beadwork decorates the edges of each panel, also a small beaded, circled motif on each of the side panels, two beads on the top panel, bottome is edged with a looped fringe, attached to the top is a handle.
