birchbark, moosehair, black thread, narrow red silk ribbon

Techniques or Format

base is square, sewn to four slightly concave side panels with curved sides and four triangular top or "lid" panels that slant inwards to fit together into the closed top. small metal fitings are inserted into the points of the triangles and a red silk ribbon is threaded through to close. They are long enough to have served as a handle if this was used as a small purse
