A pair of Hodenosaunee moccasins from the late 19th or early 20th century decorated with raised floral beadwork on the vamps. Gifted to Museum Volkenkunde by H. Postma in 1992.

Pair of moccasins made of tanned hide with inverted T seams at the heel. The inset velveteen vamps are sewn to the hide with thread and are decorated with raised beadwork. The velveteen cuffs are bound with red cotton ribbon, and are possibly lined with cardboard or a stiff material(?). Moccasins appear to be lined with a cotton fabric or possibly sacking material(?).
Floral motifs in beadwork
Paper templates can be seen beneath the beadwork. One moccasin has a metal button attached to one side of the cuff, there may be one missing on the other moccasin(?)
Museum documentation indicates: "ca. 1920"; but inscription on bottom of one moccasins indicates date of "1870"
