The Chiefs and Sachems of the Six Nations surrender to the English, approximately 1400 acres of land located on the Grand River, also known as the River Ouse. The land has been surrendered in order that the same may be secured to the children of Joseph Brant.

Description of Land Sold:

In compensation for the sufferings and losses suffered by their Sachem and Chief Joseph Brant, the Chiefs of the Six Nations agree to surrender a tract of land to His Majesty, in the hope of securing the same to Brant’s children, Jemima Stewart and Sarah Ruggles. The surrendered tract of land is described as follows:

Commencing on the south side of the Grand River at the easterly angle of lands owned by Elizabeth Clench at the water’s edge; then south sixty-five degrees west one hundred and six chains; then south twenty-seven degrees west one hundred and sixty chains; then south sixty-two degrees and thirty minutes east one hundred and twenty chains; then north twenty-seven degrees and thirty minutes east one hundred and sixty chains; then north sixty-five degrees east sixty-two chains, to the said Grand River; then up the said river against the stream, its several courses and windings to the place of beginning. The total size of the grant is approximately 1400 acres.
